Personal income tax (PIT) considered as the direct taxes levied on high-income people, including citizens of Vietnam working in domestic or business trips, working overseas with income, persons with Vietnamese non-nationality who reside indefinitely in Vietnam with income and foreigners with income in Vietnam.
Under Decree No.65/2013/ND-CP, details and guides a number of articles of the Law on Personal Income Tax and Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Personal Income Tax, regulated that from July 01 2013, resident individuals with salaries, wages and business income can be deducted the family allowances on taxable income before payable tax is calculated as 9 million/month for taxpayers (108 million/year).
Deductive allowances for each dependent that taxpayers are obliged to care is 3.6 million/month from the month with caring liability.
Under the law, the dependents that taxpayers are obliged to foster including: children (biological child, legally adopted child, stepchild of wife, stepchild) under 18 years old; children (including biological child, legally adopted child, stepchild of wife, stepchild) from 18 years old or older who are disabilities and are unable to work.
